The process which involves heating and melting metal parts in order to join them together for good is called welding. Welders are required in construction and repairing of parts of cars, ships, aircrafts and sheet-metal products. Welding is also necessary while joining beams in the construction of bridges and buildings. Some welders work at mills, highway departments and railroad shops. Some others also work as cutters and use their tools to cut metal into pieces, as per the requirements of a blueprint or design. Welders are also call upon to cut the metal pieces and discard the big constructions.
Training and innate skills make a welder skilled or unskilled. Skilled welders use blueprints and written specifications before they start working. They have a perfect knowledge of the welding properties of metals and metalloids. With the advancement in technology nowadays, you find some welders using computers and robots and joining metal pieces. Inexperienced and unskilled welders have to work on construction projects, various industries, shipbuilding and the other relevant fields.
Manufacturing plants and construction companies employ welders. You can get the information about the job openings and job options from the local union offices. You can also look for handsome opportunities in newspaper classifieds and on internet.
Welders can work under some experienced welder and gather experience. Later they can start their own workshop and work independently. Welders that work on construction sites can become work inspectors after considerable experience in the field.
